The UA Refugee Engagement Project will provide UA students the opportunity to gain or build on their existing intercultural competency and skills by volunteering with Tucson-based agencies supporting the resettlement process for the approximately 800 refugees who settle in Tucson each year. This experience will serve the community need for more globally aware and engaged citizens who are able to affect change across cultures, both within and outside of our community.
The UA Refugee Engagement Project will be a semester-long experience with students starting at the beginning of the spring or fall semesters. The Office of Global Initiatives Refugee Programming Team will provide students with a variety of prearranged volunteer opportunities with Tucson's refugee resettlement agencies or community organizations serving refugees. Students will take the lead in contacting their chosen organization(s), and will be responsible for arranging their own volunteering schedules for a total of 45 hours (not including time spent training).
