The Honors College Xtreme Discovery Teams (XDT) is a program that directs current undergraduates to engage middle school and high school students in Tucson and in surrounding communities. XDT members create and lead Honors Discovery Workshops for these middle and high school students. The workshops provide a glimpse into the kind of work being done by college students, helping to plant the seeds that a university education is within reach for these students, many of whom may be from underserved populations and/or may not be considering post-high school education. The main goal of XDT is to create awareness of the benefits of a university education as well as prepare students for possible admission to the University. XDT leaders develop partnerships with key schools and teachers and are able to impact about 1000 middle and high school students per semester. XDT teams of 3 UA students engage with classrooms of these middle and high school students and also participate in special events at local schools.
